Insider Tips for Securing the Best Accommodation Deals in Thailand

It can be daunting finding accommodation in Thailand, there are so many places to go, hundreds of different hotels and resorts in each place, and countless different ways to book and pay for your room once you’ve decided where you want to stay. So how do you make sure that you’ve snagged the right room for the right price? Follow these tips and you’ll be well on the way to getting a better deal than your average visitor.

Research!

Do a bit of research on the areas that you want to visit. Read our stupidly quick guide to Thailand and look at some of the sample itineraries. Once you’ve decided on the city it’s time to hit google maps. Go to the city and search for hotels. This will give you an idea of how many options you have and what areas have the most hotels. Once you have decided on which area you want to base yourself in you can zoom into that area and have a closer look.

If you find a hotel you like the look of you can click on it and often you will see all the different sites that you can book through with the nightly rate. If you like you can just choose the cheapest one.

But don’t research too much!

There’s just so much information out there that it can get overwhelming, after checking google you check tripadvisor, then agoda, booking, hotels.com, kayak etc and it feels like information overload and it’s impossible to make a decision. My advice to you is to pick one booking site, agoda or booking.com for example and complement that with either google or tripadvisor. This has the added benefit of allowing you to build up reward points.

When you’re ready to book

Utilize popular Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) such as Booking.com, Agoda, and Expedia to compare prices, read reviews, and book accommodations in Thailand. These platforms often offer competitive rates and allow you to filter your search based on preferences like price range, location, and amenities.

Check the app  – Some of these agencies offer a further discount if you book via their app, especially the first time you use the app, so check that.

Log in! If you keep booking via the same app, such as agoda you will build up reward points and be offered further member discounts.

Check the competition – Once you’ve decided on the hotel you want to stay at, have a quick check of the other sites, (tripadvisor and google allow you to search multiple sites at once) to see if you can get a better deal elsewhere.

Try direct –  Consider booking directly with hotels or resorts. Many establishments offer special promotions and discounts for direct bookings. Additionally, you can inquire about potential upgrades or freebies during your stay.

Timing is Key – Be mindful of the travel seasons in Thailand. Prices tend to be higher during peak periods such as major holidays and festivals. Consider planning your trip during the shoulder seasons or offseason when prices are more affordable.

Flexible Dates – If possible, be flexible with your travel dates. Shifting your trip by a few days or a week can sometimes lead to significant cost savings.

Loyalty Programs – Join loyalty programs offered by hotel chains or OTAs to accumulate points or earn rewards. These loyalty programs often provide exclusive discounts, room upgrades, or complimentary services.

Getting an upgrade

Ask nicely – When checking in, politely inquire about the availability of any complimentary upgrades. Friendly conversation and a smile can sometimes lead to unexpected enhancements to your room or additional amenities.

Special Occasions – If you’re celebrating a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary, inform the accommodation in advance. They might offer a complimentary upgrade or special gesture to enhance your stay.

Leave positive reviews for accommodations you’ve stayed at and refer them to friends or through social media. This may encourage the property to provide upgrades or discounts as a token of appreciation.

By utilizing these insider tips and approaches, you’ll maximize your chances of finding the best accommodation deals in Thailand while also potentially enjoying upgrades and remarkable experiences throughout your stay. Happy travels!
